Australia student visa: steps and documents for Bangladeshi students
An Australian student visa (subclass 500) lets you study in Australia on a registered course. This guide walks through the usual steps and documents so you can prepare early. Rules and fees change, so always confirm them on the official website.
Important notice. This page is general information about study pathways. It is not migration advice. In Australia, immigration assistance, including advice about visas and permanent residence, must come from a registered migration agent (MARA) or a legal practitioner. The Impact Global Consultant (IGC) does not promise any visa or permanent residence outcome. Check an agent's registration on the official OMARA register and check the current rules on the Department of Home Affairs website.

The usual steps
1. Choose a course and apply
Apply to a university or college. Browse bachelor courses or the Course Finder.
2. Receive and accept the offer
Read the conditions, fees and start date before you accept.
3. Get your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
The institution issues a CoE, usually after you accept the offer and pay what it asks.
4. Arrange health cover and documents
You need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the visa period, plus your identity, English, financial and other documents.
5. Apply online and attend health and biometrics, if asked
The application is made online with the Department of Home Affairs. You may be asked for health checks, biometrics or an interview.
6. Wait for the decision
The government decides. Processing times vary, so apply early and do not buy tickets before the visa is granted.
Documents students are commonly asked for
- Valid passport and passport photos as required
- Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and the offer letter
- Proof of OSHC health cover
- English test result, such as IELTS, if required for your course or visa
- Academic certificates and transcripts
- Evidence of financial capacity: money for tuition, living costs and travel, with clear evidence of where the money comes from
- Your answers and evidence for the Genuine Student requirement, which asks you to explain why you want this course in Australia and what you will do afterward
- Police certificates and health examinations if asked
The list changes by course, level and your circumstances, so use the checklist on the official website. Honest, consistent documents matter more than a long file. See our guide on common reasons for student visa refusal and interview questions.
Genuine Student requirement
Australia asks student visa applicants to show they genuinely intend to study. This replaced the older Genuine Temporary Entrant test. Your answers should be your own, true, specific to you and consistent with your documents. Do not copy a template. A refusal can affect later applications.
Money and work
You must show you can pay for tuition, living costs and travel. Do not use borrowed or unexplained funds. International students can usually work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods and full-time in scheduled breaks, but visa conditions can change, so confirm them. Work should support, not replace, your study budget.
What IGC does and does not do
IGC helps with the education side: course and university choice, applications, scholarships, and a document checklist, and we explain the general steps. Visa advice and representation in Australia is immigration assistance, which must come from a registered migration agent (MARA) or a legal practitioner. We do not promise a visa. You can read about fees and honesty commitments in our Terms of Service.
