How long is a bachelor degree in Australia?

In our listings, most bachelor programmes take 3 years (1,161 programmes) or 4 years (616 programmes). A smaller number take 5 years or more, for example some professional degrees. Some programmes are listed as 1 year, and these are usually shorter or top-up courses, so read the course page carefully before you assume the length.

Fees and English scores: what the listings show

Fees and entry scores depend on the university, the course and the year. Across the 24 universities in our listings, the indicative yearly tuition for bachelor programmes runs from about AUD 19,463 to AUD 108,300, and the English (IELTS) scores listed run from 6.0 to 8.5. Courses such as medicine, dentistry and some engineering degrees sit at the top of these ranges.

These figures are indicative. Your counsellor confirms the current fee, entry rule and intake for the exact course before you apply. Add living costs, health cover and visa fees to your budget.

Entry requirements for Bangladeshi students

Requirements differ by university and course, so always check the course page. In general you will be asked for:

  • Your Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent results, such as A levels, with the subjects the course needs
  • Proof of English, usually an IELTS score or an accepted alternative test, at the level the course asks for
  • A passport, a CV or personal statement, and recommendation letters if the university requests them
  • For some courses, a portfolio, an interview or specific subject marks

If your results or English score are a little below the requirement, some universities offer diplomas, foundation or pathway courses. Ask your counsellor which pathways exist for your chosen field. Our guide to choosing a course and the statement of purpose guide help you prepare.

Intakes, scholarships and work rights

Many Australian universities start courses in February or March and again in July. Some add other months, so check each course. Universities offer merit scholarships and tuition waivers, typically from 10% up to 100% depending on the university and course, and the Australian government offers awards such as Australia Awards and Destination Australia scholarships to eligible students. See our scholarship guide.

International students can usually work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods and full-time in scheduled breaks. Rules can change, so confirm the current rule before you plan your budget around work.
