How to Choose an Agency to Study in South Korea from Bangladesh

Key points
  • You can apply to Korean universities directly. An agency should show you the university's own process.
  • The GKS notice from the Dhaka embassy lists no application fee. Nobody can sell you a seat.
  • A visa needs the university's standard admission letter and genuine documents.
  • Never let anyone change a bank statement or certificate.

Start with the official sources

Study in Korea (studyinkorea.go.kr) is the Korean government site run by NIIED. It describes five steps: gather information, choose a school and major, apply, receive the standard admission letter, then arrange the visa.

For the application step, it says you submit documents according to the university's own admission procedure, online or by mail. So you can apply to a Korean university directly. A good agency should show you that university page and explain each document, not hide the process.

Before you pay anyone, open the university's international admissions page and note the intake month, the documents asked for and the deadline. Then compare it with what the agency tells you. If the two do not match, ask the agency to explain in writing. Fees, deadlines and entry rules change from year to year, so the university page always wins over a brochure.

GKS: free to apply, not for sale

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is run through the Korean government. The Korean Embassy in Dhaka posted its 2027 undergraduate notice on 10 September 2026. Applications were online only on studyinkorea.go.kr, from 15 to 30 September 2026. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed at the embassy, and the notice listed 3 places under the embassy track for Bangladesh.

The notice mentions no application fee. A seat is decided by the application and the interview, and nobody can buy one for you. If anyone asks for money to arrange GKS, ask the embassy before you pay. Dates and quotas change every year, so read the current notice.

The notice also says the undergraduate scholarship period is 5 to 7 years, which includes one year of Korean language study. It says candidates who pass the first round must send original and apostille-verified documents by a set deadline. Read the whole notice yourself, or ask your counsellor to read it with you, rather than depending on a summary from a stranger.

The D-4 and D-2 visa steps

Study in Korea explains that D-2 is for regular courses at associate degree level or higher. D-4 is for training at other institutions, such as Korean language programmes (D-4-1). Both need the Standard Admission Letter, issued by the university president or dean.

You then apply to the Korean embassy or consulate in your country. The site says a visa does not guarantee entry, and immigration officers decide on arrival. A visa can also be cancelled if it was obtained by fraud.

In plain terms, the order is this: apply to the university, receive the Standard Admission Letter, prepare your documents, then apply for the visa. An agency that talks about the visa before the university has accepted you is going out of order. Also ask which visa type your own programme needs, and ask the university to confirm it in writing.

What the Dhaka embassy asks for

The embassy's student visa page lists these items. Check the current list before you apply, because the page carries dates from 2021 and mentions rules from May 2025.

Each of these papers must be genuine. A bank statement, a solvency certificate or a family certificate that has been changed or made to look bigger is fraud, and a visa obtained by fraud can be cancelled. No agent should ask you to do this. If someone says it is normal, walk away.

  • A barcoded e-Form from the Korea Visa Portal, submitted in person.
  • The school's certificate of admission, a birth certificate and a family relationship certificate.
  • Proof of financial capability, such as a bank solvency certificate and 6 months of bank statements.
  • A parents' no objection letter, and a police clearance issued within 3 months.
  • A TB test from a designated centre, and an IELTS or TOEFL score from the last 2 years.
  • Education documents through the Bangladesh Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Questions to ask the agency

Ask these questions at the first meeting and keep the written answers. A reliable agency will be comfortable with them, because the questions only ask it to show its work.

  • Which universities will you apply to, and can I see each university's own application page?
  • Which fees go to the university, and which are your service fee? Please list them in writing.
  • Who will handle my file, and can I meet that person?
  • Will I receive the admission letter and every email from the university myself?
  • What happens to my money if the university refuses me?
  • Which documents will you need from my family, and who keeps the originals?

Red flags

Some warning signs are loud and some are quiet. Watch for both, and discuss them with a parent or another adult you trust before you decide.

  • A promise of admission, a scholarship or a visa. Nobody outside the university, the embassy and the scholarship body can promise these.
  • Money asked for a GKS seat, or for a place that you cannot check on an official site.
  • Pressure to pay everything now.
  • Any suggestion to inflate a bank statement, edit a certificate or sign a document you do not understand.
  • No written fee list and no receipts.
  • No official Bangladeshi rule that licenses study abroad agencies was found, so a trade licence alone proves very little.

What IGC counsellors check with you

At IGC, a counsellor checks your results, IELTS or other English proof, budget and the source of your funds. We confirm every document is true, explain costs in writing, and show you the university and embassy pages so you can verify each step. We do not promise admission or a visa.

We also tell you if your results, English score or budget are not yet strong enough for a particular university, and we explain what you could improve first.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply to a Korean university without an agent?

Yes. Study in Korea says you submit documents following the university's own admission procedure, online or by mail. An agent may help with the paperwork, but you should always see the university's official page yourself.

Can an agent get me a GKS scholarship?

No honest agent can. The Dhaka embassy's 2027 undergraduate notice describes online applications and embassy interviews, and it lists no application fee. Ask the embassy before paying anyone who talks about arranging a seat.

What is the difference between D-4 and D-2?

D-2 is for regular courses at associate degree level or above. D-4 is for training at other institutions, including Korean language programmes. Both need the Standard Admission Letter. Confirm which one applies with your university and the embassy.

Is a Korean student visa guaranteed after admission?

No. Admission is not a visa, and a visa is not a guarantee of entry. The embassy checks your documents, and immigration officers decide on arrival. Fraudulent documents can lead to cancellation.
